Flag is symbol of southern pride
I take great offense at the letter written by David W. Swan concerning the Confederate flag (“Confederate flag dishonors parade,” June 5).
The flag does not stand for treason, hatred, racism, slavery and oppression as he says. It stands simply as a symbol of the South and of southern pride. We do not all have white capes and hoods hanging in our closets ready to ride into the night and burn crosses.

Troy Brugger has been our most faithful member over the two years since the Orangeburg X (ten) began. Troy is a tool and die maker who travels over thirty miles to attend our fortnightly meetings. A dedicated South Carolina nationalist, Troy takes every opportunity to publically demonstrate his dedication to the cause.
At our next meeting Troy will take over to lead the discussion. We are halfway through with with the Politically Incorrect Guide to the South. Troy will take us further down the trail.
One of the first things Stalin, Hitler, Mao and other totalitarians did was rewrite the histories of their nations, remaking the past to foster their control of the present. The American Left has done the same thing in our country: most American history books – both for students and adults — are riddled with PC nonsense that makes the Founding Fathers over into racist slaveholders, the settlers of the West into genocidal land-stealers, and the welfare state into the harbinger of the ultimate triumph of liberalism.
Within the empire the arbiters of historical memory screwed down the lid on acceptable interpretation. They defined the South and its traditions as deviant and retrograde, richly deserving of continual economic and cultural Reconstruction.
PIG American History helps defeat the ideologues. Author Thomas Woods shows that the War to Prevent Southern Independence was ardently sought by a small subset of Yankees who “seethed with loathing for the entire South” and “only served to discredit anti-slavery activity in the South.” It was really about the desire of Northern plutocrats to protect themselves from the threat of commerce being diverted to “the South’s low-tariff or free trade regime.” He quotes H.L. Mencken’s comment that Union soldiers “actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves.”
….the Puritans were not racists intent on stealing the Indians’ lands, the Founding Fathers were not revolutionaries but conservatives in the true sense of the word, the American War Between the States (to even call it a civil war is inaccurate, Woods says) was not principally about slavery, Abraham Lincoln was no friend to the slaves, and FDR’s New Deal policies actually made the Depression worse. He also covers a wide range of constitutional interpretations over the years, particularly regarding the First, Second, Ninth, and Tenth amendments, and continually makes the point that states’ rights have been unlawfully trampled upon by the federal government since the early days of the republic.

Time has not yet run out on South Carolina’s Immigration Legislation.
H3032, “The Illegal Alien Immigration Reform Act,” can still be passed into law this year but time is running out. Please call Governor Mark Sanford at (803) 735-2100 on Monday morning, 17 June, and tell him that it is extremely important to you that he get the bill (H3032) passed and that there is only one way: he must call the legislature into general session until there is a up vote on it. Tell him that he will be loved by millions of South Carolinians for this act of leadership and that he will have your vote for as long as he wants it.
THE SPECIAL INTERESTS HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TO DEFEAT THESE BILLS. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINIANS, only their bottom line! Georgia’s anti-illegal immigration law became effective July 1, 2007. If we don’t have our law in place, the illegal immigration invasion into South Carolina will triple. South Carolina already has one of the highest per capita rate of illegal immigrants in the US. If H3032 is enacted, the illegal aliens will leave! No Jobs = Illegals Leave South Carolina! It’s called SELF-DEPORTATION!

Why these virtuous and strong men came to support secession.
College president Thomas Cooper, major agitator Barnwell Rhett, and the reluctant secessionists James Henley Thornwell, ex-president John Tyler, and North Carolina congressman John A. Gilmer, one by one they embraces secession. Thornwell foresaw how calamitous secession would prove, Tyler strove heroically to keep the Upper South in the Union, and ardent unionist Gilmer, whom Lincoln offered a cabinet post, agreed to secession only after Lincoln called for troops.
Dedication is the first step for true leadership.
Rather than driving people away, this demand draws out the idealistic element and inspires the sort of dedication needed. Dedication and Leadership clearly demonstrates how effective Communists were at bringing in new recruits and immediately putting them to work. The value in this is that they begin to identify themselves with the movement and ask questions. Then come the study groups. Hyde takes the reader step by step though the process by which a young communist recruit is trained to be a leader of men. High expectations (you are joining an elite organization) and high purpose (you are going to make a difference in the lives of men) combine to form the foundation of dedication. The Communist party could take anyone willing to be trained in leadership and make a leader. In one chapter, “The Story of Jim,” the author describes Jim as, ‘very short, grotesquely fat, with a flabby white face, a cast in one eye and, to make matters worse, a most destressing stutter.’ He didn’t stay that way.
These five fundamental factors are familiar to every general. Those who master them win; those who do not are defeated. Therefore, in laying plans, compare the following seven elements, appraising them with the utmost care.
Linguist and left-wing political critic Noam Chomsky argues [the power the Evil Empire (EE) holds over so many nations] is the result of a systematic strategy of propaganda, maintained by an “elite domination of the media” which allows it to “fix the premises of discourse and interpretation, and the definition of what is newsworthy in the first place, and they explain the basis and operations of what amount to propaganda campaigns.”
Wikipedia
In Orangeburg we fix our own premises of discourse and interpretation; we decide what is newsworthy, what is worth thinking about and discussing. In sidestepping the Ministry of Interpretation we have liberated our minds. What joy!
